What is MAPPR?
Mecklenburg Area Partnership for Primary Care Research (MAPPR) is a Practice Based Research Network designed to study barriers to healthcare access for the underserved and vulnerable populations in Charlotte.
Mission and Goal
Our mission is to bring together the strengths of our diverse partnerships to facilitate research that can be put into practice. The goal for this network is to leverage the strengths of different sectors of the community to bring about positive change in individual lives by improving healthcare and quality of life.
History
MAPPR is headquartered at the Department of Family Medicine, Carolinas HealthCare System, under the directorship of Michael Dulin, MD, PhD, and is funded through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the National Institute of Health (NIH).
Community Based
Participatory Research (CBPR)
CBPR is an emerging model of research that enhances ongoing clinical research by involving key stakeholders, including community members and patients, in all components of the research process.
UNC Charlotte Urban Institute
UNC Charlotte Urban Institute is a nonpartisan, applied research and community outreach center at UNC Charlotte. Founded in 1969, it provides services including technical assistance and training in operations and data management; public opinion surveys; and research and analysis around economic, environmental, and social issues affecting the Charlotte region.
The Urban Institute has been an invaluable partner with MAPPR as we conduct our activities in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area.
